When you first take the dive into playing online poker there are a ton of different things to think about and maybe even worry about.  It can be very confusing, and learning where to start can take some time.  There are hundreds to thousands of tables to choose from and most of the time you only need to pick one.  Even after you are very experienced with online poker, there should still be a lot of thought and research that goes into choosing a table to play at online.

There are a couple of different things to think about before you just sit down at a poker table online.

Beginners

If you are a beginner, it probably doesn’t really matter too much where you sit.  When you start out you just need to focus on getting used to the site, and everything about playing poker online.  What table you sit at will not matter much at this point.  It will only bring more confusion into the game.  You should however; think about what kind of poker game you want to play.  There are lots of different games and for each game there are different tables.  Even if you just show all Texas Hold’em tables, there are still lots of choices.  There are tables with 9 players, tables with 6 players, turbo tables, and tables with lots of different limits.  Beginner or no beginner that is one decision you must make.  You have to be able to make the decision of what table to sit at depending on your own preferences.

Advanced Players

Once you have gotten used to playing poker online and you have a good feel for the site and everything about online poker, it is time to take it to the next level.  Just like in a real poker room there are different skill levels at different tables.  Some tables will be filled with terrible players while others will have a bunch of strong good players.  You may like competition, but if you are trying to make money anyone will tell you to sit with the fish.  You will want to do your best to play at a table where there is a bunch of fish.

How do you find the fish?

Well, there is really no easy way to find which players are good and which are bad.  The only true way to be able to find the fish is to watch to tables for a while.  Whenever you play online poker, it is best to reserve about an hour to just sit and watch for players that are not good and like to give away money.  You will find tables that are just filled with terrible players.  Not only that, but you will be able to figure out how people play by watching the tables.

As you play you should take note of the names of the players who tend to dump off a lot of money and play a weak style of poker.  After you play long enough you will not have to reserve anytime for watching tables, because you will already have a big list of fish.  Then all you have to do is find out which tables these fish are sitting at and then take all of their money.

While many may think it does not matter what table you sit at, it really does.  The table that you sit at is going to make a huge difference in how much money you make.  Why would you want to sit down at a random table and hope that you get sat down with some fish, when you can go find the fish and choose to sit with them?  Choosing the correct table online has everything to do with your success.
